Boat of Hope

All aboard the Boat of Hope.

The Boat of Hope is a child mental health campaign benefitting the Love Rowing and Samaritans charities, which will see a Liverpool man, and founder of the campaign, Bernie Hollywood OBE, solo row The Atlantic on a rowing boat called The City of Liverpool. This boat will travel 3000 miles across 90 days as part of the Talisker Atlantic Challenge. This incredible boat is a floating work of art, filled with the artwork and words of high school children from across the UK who answered the question, ‘What does Hope look like?’

Our director, Natalie Reeves Billing, is the Primary Ambassador for the campaign and has written the official picture book, Bernie and Boatie, which opens up a conversation between little ones and their grown-ups about feelings, fears and self-doubt. All sales from this book go towards the campaign and creating a space for young people to talk.

Find the links to the Boat of Hope campaign, including race tracking, and purchase the official picture book, Bernie and Boatie, here

We choose an important theme each year for our imagination boxes, and this year, as Liverpool’s Year of Spoken Word, we felt that a campaign that promoted conversations around how we feel was something that really resonated with us. Approaching well-being from a creative angle has been shown to greatly help with managing fear and anxiety.

What's in the Box

The boxes have been created to support child mental health via the epic adventures of Bernie Hollywood OBE and his Boat of Hope campaign which supports the Samaritans and Love Rowing Charities.

Our boxes are filled with resources designed to create family time which in turn improves mental health and wellbeing. The box allows families to participate in mini activities each day for 90 days (the length of Bernie’s solo row across the sea) 90 days is the length of time needed for a new positive routine to be established. The legacy will be healthier happier families.
